Well, this past month has been quite good. Hockey is just around the corner and I'm always looking forward to game nights with friends at home or the bar. Also, I just started playing hockey again in a garage league and it's great. One thing I noticed though, is how I limit myself to the kinds of things I do by not being more proactive.
I always find myself doing the same things and not really being too varying. The main constraint I have is that interpersonally, most of my friends never want to do anything. They're either too tired after just finishing work, or just don't have the money etc. I find I tend to be too passive in that I will accommodate them. Also, I suppose the fact the past couple of weeks most of my friends were sick.
However, with all that said, I finally decided to get things moving and am planning several trips with my friends. This might be a very cool project, with England and Japan being the two destinations I might be going to!
I learned though that I was almost in a state of learned helplessness in that I felt I could only do what my friends felt like doing, since they never seem to want to go downtown or to a new place it seems. It turns out that all it took was for me to voice my thoughts and then ideas started coming. For one, we went to a pool hall near the plateau called Boule Noir. It was nice for some new scenery.
I guess when I think about it, I am also constantly aware of my leisure options and choices and although I might be tired of the same thing, I prefer that with my friends than something new on my own. I'm the person who likes to shares those times with friends.

Habs season
I am so excited for this season of hockey...Every summer I look forward to fall just to start watching hockey again. Anyways, so far I have 2 games that I'm going to see....One is with my parents and brother for some good times spent with my family...Although I still live at home, i rarely see my parents or my brother sicne my schedule is so different than theirs.... The other game I am going to see is courtesy of my buddies father who has some awesome season tickets in the reds.... I'm still bargaining with my friend to convince his dad to sell me some more for cheap, but that doesnt look like it'll work. Anyways, this season is going to be ridiculous...The habs have a pretty good looking team and with the centennial season, the all star game and all the expectations after last year, this season promises to be great no matter wehat.
GO HABS GO!!!
GO HABS GO!!!
Good ol times
Well last night was the first time in about six years that I got on the ice to play hockey. Needless to say, it took me a few minutes to shake the cobwebs off and get back into form but it was a blast. When I look back to my days of playing hockey, it was my life. I ate, drank and slept hockey when I wasn;t on the ice. I think of all the tournaments out of town, big games and shootouts it makes me wish I still played. Playing competitive hockey, like any compoetitive team sport, takes a great deal of dedication. Despite how much i loved and still love the sport, at the time I decided to stop, in grade 11, I felt that spending my last high school year with my friends was more important. I still keep the memories of my years of hockey at heart and remember the highs and lows. So needless to say, being able to get back on the ice last night was great. I am still a little short of that flow experience since for the most part, I am still rusty and the other guys are very skilled and most still play, but it won't take me long to sharpen up the old skills. Till then, I am looking forward to next Tuesday for the next time to get onto the ice.

traffic

This thought just came to me today while driving to and from school. Generally speaking, I am a very passive person and don't really get upset or unnerved too easily. In any case, I realized today that when I drive to school, as opposed to taking public transport, I view it more as leisure. I listen to music or chat with a buddy if I give them a ride etc. But whjen I take the train and metro, I find it so much more draining than sitting in traffic that when I get to school, I already feel drained from the trip. I wonder how many of you guys find traffic amusing, especially when that person whos really late starts weaving in and out of lanes tyhinking it will save them time. Anbyways, I'm curious what your comments might be on this.

Well, its 5 pm and I just woke up after a nice night at work. So you know, i work at an Irish Pub on the North shore. Anyways, I decided to set up my blog while trying to recuperate from work and so here we are. A little about me, I'm a second year Leisure science major and love the university atmosphere over that of Cegep. I'll leave it at that and see you soon.
Cheers.
Cheers.
